NEW 2008 update!!!

GUIDING FROM THE HEAD WATERS TO THE OPEN WATERS OF THE

GREAT NEUSE RIVER AND IT'S TRIBUTARIES TO THE OCEAN

Welcome to Speckrigg Charters! Take a few moments to visit the links to all my sponsors and other sites that are of interest. All are friendly viewing and are also visited by me. The Guides page is still expanding and has some of the areas top guides. I personally know all and have always found them to be very professional in their dealings with me and their own clients. Not to mention they are all first class anglers in their own right!!

The fishing reports is favored by most visitors and gives a good index of what is happening on the NeuseRiver, hence the sites address fishing the NeuseRiver. My travels also take me to the Roanoke River, BayRiver, Pamlico Sound and the area inshore and offshore of the MoreheadCity area on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina. But the fishing reports are focused on the river.

For 2008 season I have down sized and provide guiding for shallow water fishing for Sharks, Puppy drum, Speckled Trout and a few others that are at the beach. All charters are Flyfishing only. This is A-game flyfishing and you will be guided personaly by me. There are some Tailing Redfish (puppy drum) oppertunities on some of the limited high tides there at the beach....that is an A-Game fishery!!! Rates are dependent on where you decide to go...just call for tides and fishing conditions.

NEW FOR 2008 SEASON

Speckrigg Charters is very fortunate to partner with Brandon Eatman and Kary Via. They are very knowledgeable in their respective waters and can provide guiding services on your boat to help you learn not only the area but also help in what it will take to get you catching in terms of tackle and how to use the tackle.

Brandon Eatman grew up fishing the Neuse River for bass with family and friends. He also fishes a bit of nearshore and offshore for Tuna, Mahi, and others too.even a shark or two. Brandon is firmly one of the areas top producers of stripers and fishes and finds them almost all year long. The local areas also have Flounder, speckled trout and Puppy Drum (locals name for Red Drum) and of course Large Mouth Bass and Brandons knowledge of the river usually keeps him on fish. Brandon is also a Bass Tournament angler and places in the top 10 in most of his tourneys. And lastly, hes a lot of fun to fish with!!!

Kary Via is a long time angler for tailing redfish here in Carteret Co. Hes guilty of ruining quite a few of us on thatit does get in your brain. He is somewhat of an artist in regards to making flies that catch fish and is a large knowledge base for anyone that is interested in entering the realm of flyfishing. Kary has a penchant for hanging in and finding fish when most give in and leave.couple that with a good knowledge of the coast and where to find fish most times of the year and your money could not be better invested to get you over the humps of learning a new areas fishery. And like Brandon, Kary is also a heck of a lot of fun to fish with!!

So, if you are coming to the area to live, or vacation and have your own boat.Im very sure we can provide a service that is both cost effective and extremely enjoyable.I hope to hear from you soon to book a day or more with Brandon or Kary of Speckrigg Guide service!! Need help getting your boat set up for fishing? We can provide experts to walk you through and help you decide which tackle suits your needs....and budget and get you started catching fish sooner. From Flyfishing to offshore tackle, you'll get expert help!!! It's great bang for your buck in times when wasting gas "just to be out there" just doesen't make sense anymore.....remember, our guides have thousands of hours on the waters....Just give us a call, we can help!!!!!

January and February are quite months for Speckrigg Charters. I'm usually on the road doing shows, seminars and getting things ready for a busy spring time. Below is usally how the seasons run here in eastern NC.

March, April, May

Hickory Shad, Stripers and Speckled Trout are the main targets on outings this time of year.

June, July, and August

Mixed bag trips of Speckled Trout, Puppie Drum and flounder and fishing in the Pamilico Sound and some near shore excursions for Spanish, Dolphin and other species. Plus trips to Cape Lookout.

September, October, November, December

My personal favorite time of the year!! Speckled Trout and Puppie Drum abound here in the river and creeks on the NeuseRiver and the fishing really heats up both on the River and the near shore. Stripers, Trout and Puppie Drum on top water plugs are an added treat this time of year.

I'm  a life-long resident of this area and through time have fished most of the watershed and nearby sounds of the Neuse River. My local knowledge of the rivers and creeks that make up the Neuse River basin will help make your Charter a success and a great memory!

I am a U.S. Coast Guard licensed captain with more than 2114 inland days logged and over 356 offshore days logged so far, and still counting. I mated on a 45' sport fisher part-time fishing for offshore species for 4 years before deciding to go the direction of inside fishing. After studying for more than a year on my own, I went to Charleston (SC) Coast Guard Station and took the exam and passed. And in 2004, I recieved my 50 ton Master upgrade. The safety and welfare of my passengers are always paramount and I reserve the right to cancel or redirect a trip if it presents a threat to my customers.
