For those that have the will to do so..Sharks on the flyrod!! Pupie Drum on the fly in the grass is good on high tides. Some Trout are just inside.

7/2/07

Lots of Shark action this month......lots of excitment and great pullage. I can take 3 anglers and hit near shore or inside if the conditions are less than perfect to Catch some pretty decent fish!!!! Decent chance to hang into a 80lb fish and the normal is close to 35 to 50 lb sharks that put a great pullage for their size!!!!!! Weather permitting the off the beach fishing is consistant too. The near shore wrecks are alive with fish so lets go!!!

Call me for specials on Shark fishing inshore!!!

This summer and weekends that are not booked, I'll be setting up shop, on the water in Morehead and Beaufort. So... give me a call if your vacation plans are bringing you to the coast this summer..I'd like to get you out on the water to FISH!!!!

4/28/07

There are some very good report os some nice slotsized Puppie Drum (Redfish) in the ICW and Newport river and marshes. There are some keeper Speckled trout mixed in too. Bonita and Blufish near shore and still a few seamullet in the Turnbasin...but not many. There are lots of Blufish in the 11" size that should be hitting the inlet soon if not there now. They were and still are stacked up as thick as ever on the Near shore AR reefs from the top of the collum to the bottom. Next to show will be the Cobia. Capt George of Downeast Guide has a nice rig to take you sight fishing for them...his site in on my area guides section. I may do a charter or two if anybody wants that. just let me know.

4/19/07

There are some trout and Puppy Drum inthe backwater of the ocean in and around Morehead and Beaufort and Harkers Island. The usall places likethe Haystacks and just off the ICW. Piers off the ICW may hold some nice Puppy Drum and a few Specks. Near shore, the Bonita and even a few Albacore are hanging. And....Blufish on the reefs and int he inlet...small bluesfish that are fun to catch. Give me a call and we'lll get you out there!!!!

4/9/07

First of these this year.

The Puppie Drum are starting to show up bu some of the guided reports that I've been hearing and friends that have been out have caught some Albacore on the fly as of last weekend. There were a few Speckled Trout inthe Haystacks and nearby Marshes too. Decent Seamullet ans some small Grey Trout in the turnbasin and just off the Beaches. Some sightings of Bonita but this past cold snap may hamper thier arrival a bit till it warms up more. No reports of Blufish in any numbers.

11/16/06

It's pretty good now at the beach wit6h the specks and even a few Lil'Tunnys arre being caught. Friends got a few on Saturday but the weather seems to be working aginst the fish. We need some cooler water temps and so NE winds to move something..bait, fish whatever. CLRJetty is crowded even on the weekdays but there are some fish there for sure. Lots of specks in the marsh too! Therer are still some Puppie Drum in the marshes and some have been caught in the Haystacks and up the ICW.

11/05/06

there are so many Specks here at the beach now....all you need to do is GO!!!!! Inshore, off the beach, backwaters the fish are here in some really impressive numbers and sizes too. The reports of this past weekend are very impressive from allthe guides and anglers. The Albacore are here but were not in large schools so that was a bit tougher to get done. Still some wre caught and they were pretty big fish, in the teens. That will sraighten out your leaders!! Lots of nicer sized Blues inthe inlet too. A few wre int he 4lb class with many int he 2 to 3lb class and pullage is maxumum and lots of fun!!

10/26/06

Had a very good day there at the beach on sunday with regular client George H. He caught some very nice fish up the ICW from beufort where we lauched. Caught most on LIve Shrimp and some even on topwaters. I will only get better. Only 1 day on the weekends left,, call and get the best fishing for this time of year.!!!!

10/15/06

The Bait is stacking up and the fishing is getting good. Nearshore the Blufish and the False Albacore are taking action against the schooled up Silversides that are really stacked up along the beach. Look for the birds to help you locate the fish…I sure all of you know that though. Just stay from running over the bait once you find it. Yesterday a few boats just ran through the bait scatter the fish and the baitfish. Not a good thing to do. The boat did manage to boat 5 albacore and SOOOooomany blufish yesterday on the Fly yesterday. Lots of FUN!!!!Inshore the Speckled Trout are getting a bit thicker in concentrations and the smaller trout will most likely be in good numbers by Next weekend. With the water temps in the low 70s and upper 60s the fall fishing should take off. I currently have a few days in Oct and Nov and even a few on the weekends left. Albacore and trout fishing in the same day!!! Give me a call!!

10/04/06

It's October and my fav month of the year for fishing!! This year is loking very good for Trout and the bite has been going well in the river. I expect things to shift into gear in the either this week or the next and the fish will be thick. Soft plastics and Mirrorlures are my choices in artificails and this backwater fishers really lends itself to the flypole then too. And the near shore fishing shold be getting great too. The live bait fishing is phenon and last year I had a few 100 fish (specks) trips, Small fish but lots of fun!! This year looks promising too.

9/25/06

What a nice calm weekend to fish at the beach!!!Not!! I didn't make it there this weekend, worked close to home. But I did have a few friend make it there. There are some small Albacore starting to hit and lots of bait stacked up. The Specks should be right around the corner. Cant wait for that fishing to begin. It is shaping to be a nice season. There are reports of the Spots just begining to make the Turnbasin in MHC this week. In the past they were pretty thick there but in recent years the number seem a bit down..maybe this year will be better. I do know for a fact that Fish Bites work very well and maybe better than shrimp of bloodworms. And dont forget that regular old red worms will work too!! Learned that from my uncle who lived in the Straights. I'll try to keep ya'll posted on the spots and onther int he next week.

9/20/06

Well the water temps are indeed droping in the ocean and there is a bunch of bait leaving the sound. That means the carnage will soon start at the beach. Just this past week there was a lot of bait in the sound and now much of the glass minnows is now moving out. There is still a bunch of hadden and fingermullets to fill the local fish bellies though. The Redfish are still abundant and not to hard to find. The redfish magic with a white or pearl body works pretty good. Also topwater action is heating up for the reds and trout. Reports are pretty good from adams to the end of the ditch on the reds and a good number of specks are finding their way to the coolers also. Some decent sized ones too. Most are falling for plastics in white,. transluent gold, and even chartruce green with a pink tail. If live shrimp is availible, cheating will most assuradly get your limit of specks....you just have to feed the pinfish along the way! I fish the coast this weekend so a better report on that monday. Finishing up also this weekend with the last(for me) trip to the sound. I have some dates open on the weekends in october.

9/11/06 coastal report

A pretty important date here for sure!! I moment of prayer..Thank you God. Thoughts to those who lost, Gave and are still giving so I can write this in ENGLISH!!

The Red Drum fishing is still very consistent and most likely will be for the next few months. From Fly fishing to conv tackle most guys are catching a few and some of the Guides are doing a great job of getting their clients on lots of fish. Topwaters, Redfish magics, fly fishing. Have all been very productive as the season progresses to the fall. Specks have been making a limited showing in Morehead but further south towards Swansboro Capt. Jeff Cronk and Capt Mike Taylor are already catching good numbers.

October and November are coming up fast. Call for available weekends and days. Stuill lots of Shrimp in the backwaters and shad too.

8/28/06 coastal

There are some really nice sized slots all along the ICW (Adams Creek and it’s creeks and core creek) all the way to North river. They are taking plastics; live bait and some topwater stick baits. Most of these fish are working the grass in search of shrimp and small fish. Redfish magic spinner baits are doing well and you can work these pretty effectively in and around the oyster beds. Live shrimp on the popping corks with a 24” leader is the best bet against the shoreline if you are using that for bait. We did well yesterday getting some shrimp out of Newport river for eating and bait use. There were some redfish working the grass banks and we had a few bust our spooks by no hookups. The shrimpers have moved in and the water in there and the ICW is pretty stirred up. The water is still in the upper 80s and really needs to cool down some. Next report by weekend.

8/24/06

Some decent tides next week it look like. The waters have cleared a bit on the creeks. Withthe exception of the creeks off the ICW that drain some ofthe big farms. But these should clear sooner than this weekend. There are some reports of nice trout in the ICW starting closer to the Neuse in the creeks just of the ICW. A live shrimp on a popping cork will find these fish. Fish all the points going in these creeks till you find the fish. Catch one..he won't be by himself. The new spinning lures are catching and well as the usalle plstics. I still prefer my Shadlins (OldBayside Plastics) in Greens and Golds in this area. I will also fish the Shrimp on a 5/0bass hook if the conditions are good. I've also found that overnight soaking of the plastics in Lunker Sauce works pretty good and it's cheaper than Gulps. Popping corks...great time of the year to start using them. I use the OBS paridice Popper with 30" of 15lb floracarbon leader tied to my plastics. it's a great fishfinding tool to cover a bunch of water. Gota run. more later.

8/23/06

Just a update on the fish. Today the fishing was a bit off from the weekend but the water that fell may make for some muddy waters in the next few days. Live bait will help and so will topwaters. The core creek will clear up in a few days though. Reports later in teh weeek.

8/20/06

Here is the first installment to the coastal report. Hope you can get a bit from it!!

Fished in Morehead this weekend for some redfish. We saw a good amount of them but for some reason just a few tails seen in the area we fished. We were flyfishing but they would have taken a live shrimp or pc of crab I'll bet. It almost time for the specks to show up in good numbers and I'll be fishing here at the beach and back home in the Neuse. Kinda nice to be able to fish both. The weekends fishng was a bit off for most folks but there is always some fish to catch. There is some good bait to be jigged up offf the piers just inside the Port using Sabiki riggs to add bait to the livewell and fun for the kids to help. Some cigars can be gotton off the cans out the inlet too the same way. Still a few sharks behind Shack for tugging. Chumming works as does using the fresh fish caught. I'd recomend using 14/0 circles to hook the fish and just cut the line @ the hook so the Sharks can have the hook. I have some dates left for the fall so lets get you on my book. This fall for the speckled trout will most likly be as good as last year...maybe better!! More here next few days.
